About the campaign
Over a billion people worldwide live with a disability – 80 percent of them in the Global South. The potential of the inclusion of persons with disabilities for the economic and social development of a society is enormous – and beneficial for all (participating) sides.
However, too often the topic is perceived as a burden in the German development cooperation, declared as a niche topic and defined as too complex for the implementation.
Last but not least, there are frequently fears and barriers in German development cooperation, making it difficult to deal openly and positively with the inclusion of persons with disabilities.
This website wants to demonstrate that inclusion is possible and feasible. Inclusion is a human right. Inclusion is important and right.
On behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) spoke to individuals from the Global South: Ghana, Jordan, Georgia, South Africa and Cambodia. A total of 21 inspiring persons shared their story. They talk about their life with a disability, about challenges and opportunities, setbacks and success. They give personal insights – and hope.
The interviews will be published gradually on this website. They should provide easy access to the topic of inclusion, break down barriers and encourage dialogue. And they should contribute to active participation..
Become part of our community, follow us on twitter or contact us via email. Let´s stand together for the inclusion of persons with disabilities. For an open(-minded) society in which every person is recognized and valued for their strengths and potential. For a society in which inclusion is practiced naturally.
