The new commitments portal for the Global Disability Summit 2025 was launched on 11th June, 2024 as part of a side event of the 17th Session Of The Conference Of States Parties To The CRPD (COSP17). As a central new tool of the GDS Commitment Mechanism, the platform allows stakeholders to make concrete pledges ahead of the Summit to implement the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and to translate those pledges into practical action.
Stakeholders such as governments, UN agencies, organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs), and organizations from the private sector, civil society or academia can use the platform to outline specific actions, initiatives, or policies they will implement on disability inclusion. You can already register your profile and interact with other users through the discussion forum. The platform will be finalized and ready for the submission of your commitments by September 2024.
The three GDS co-hosts, the Government of Germany, the Government of Jordan, and the International Disability Alliance (IDA), presented the platform for commitment submission at COSP17 in their Side Event:
“From political will to tangible change: launching the Commitments Platform for the Global Disability Summit 2025”
Moderated by the World Bank, the event also addressed further key aspects of the next Summit. It featured additional input from the US Agency for International Development (US AID), the European Commission, and the International Disability and Development Consortium (IDDC) on their experiences with commitments for the Global Disability Summits in 2018 and 2022.
